The Alhambra and the Generalife Council (Granada) in coordination with the Arabic Studies Center (Granada), have been studying and classifying all epigraphs of the monument for years.
They wanted to publish an interactive publication where people could consult, visualize and collate each and every one of the epigraphs, as well as locate them geographically.
Colorao developed the multimedia interactive.
The system allows to locate epigraphs in several ways:
On one hand by navigating a hierarchical map system, in which the user goes into the different zones, halls, rooms and paraments to find at the desired epigraphy.
When selecting one of them, a complete file with all the study data is displayed.
Overlayed on the photography of the epigraphy, several layers of vector drawing are displayed: tracing, reconstructions, additions, etc. The text is indicated in Arabic as well as its translation.
There are also a series of comments from the researchers and a list of correspondences or relationships with other similar epigraphs in form, subject or translation. It’s also possible to access a 360 virtual tour of the selected room, thus being able to observe the epigraphy in its context.
The application also allows a detailed search by zone, room, author, type, material, letter or dimensions, offering as a result a list of epigraphs that meet the indicated requirements.
Due to the immense volume of material, the interactive was packaged in DVD format for later distribution and sale.
Colorao has programmed the 3 available editions: Palace of Comares, Palace of the Lions and Mexuar-Partal.
